The origin of high hydraulic resistance for filter cakes of deformable particles: cell-bed deformation or surface- layer effect?

چکیده
This study reports a numerical approach for modeling the hydraulic resistance of a filter cake of deformable cells. First, a mechanical and osmotic model that describes the volume fraction of solids in a bed of yeast cells as a function of the compressive pressure it experiences is presented. The effects of pressure on the compressibility of yeast cells beds were further investigated both by filtration experiments and by centrifugal experiments based on the multiple speed equilibrium sediment height technique. When comparing the latter measurements with compression model calculations, we observed that the method based on centrifugal experiments suffers from rapid relaxation of the compressed bed. Formation and stability of organic layers around inorganic particles in aqueous media: an introduction to origin of life
Formation of non bonded organic layer around inorganic particles like iron sulfide and zeolites, was hypothesized as starting point for one of the possible mechanisms of the origin of life on earth. In this study, the general circumstances needed for creation of such organic layer was investigated. An aliphatic hydrocarbon (hexane), an aromatic hydrocarbon (toluene), an alcohol (n-octanol) and ...

For the first time, this research reports the formation of nanoporous layers of metals on the surface of metal substrates by Raney method and their conversion to corresponding porous perovskite layers. The noble metals doped perovskites are used as catalytic converter for reducing automotive pollutants. The use of perovskite as a substrate for the noble metals can reduce the need for such metal...

Porous media of hydro-carbon reservoirs is influenced from several scales. Effective scales of fluid phases and solid phase are different. To reduce calculations in simulating porous hydro-carbon reservoirs, each physical phenomenon should be assisted in the range of its effective scale. The simulating with fine scale in a multiple physics hydro-carbon media exceeds the current computational ca...

Heat and mass transfer, in this paper, is considered in one-row heat exchanger, that fins are hotter than air flow and water is added to fins. Related governing equations are derived by analyzing a two-dimension model in a unique cell of a heat exchange. These equations are numerically solved by finite difference method. Heat transfer and efficiency under partially wet surface are calculated by...

Aerosol filtration in fibrous filters is one of the principal methods of removal of solid particles from the gas stream. The classical theory of depth filtration is based on the assumption of existing single fiber efficiency, which may be used to the recalculation of the overall efficiency of the entire filter. There are several reasons for inappropriate estimation of the single fi...
